Antique Malayer Vase Garden Rug

Hand-knotted in western Persia, this late 19th-century Malayer features an unusually rich allover composition of stylized flowering vases, blossoms, foliage, and small decorative motifs arranged across a deep, nearly black ground. Warm madder reds, salmon, apricot, camel, and softened neutral tones create remarkable depth against the dark navy blue field, while the narrow geometric floral border gives structure to the densely patterned interior. Woven in wool and preserved with the beautifully softened surface and low, even pile that come only with age, this 4’6″ x 6’9″ rug has exceptional character and a wonderfully layered, almost tapestry-like quality.
