Antique Turkmen Main Handwoven Rug

Handwoven in Turkmenistan ca 1910, this antique main carpet features a rare, nearly square 9’8″ x 9’10” format and a field of repeating tribal guls in deep madder red, salmon, dark brown, and blue-black. The broad proportions and restrained palette give the rug a powerful, architectural presence, while its low, time-softened pile, visible wear, and gentle waviness reflect its age and all-wool construction.
